What is ILL?

Interlibrary Loan (or ILL) is just what it sounds like: items are loaned between libraries.

ILL allows you to request items that you can't find in Library Catalog or our databases. We can almost always get you what you need - all you have to do is place an online request!

Our ILL system allows you to track your requests, check due dates, renew items, etc.

How to Request an ILL

Before requesting an item, check the Journal Finder and the online catalog, to make sure we don’t already have access to it. Even articles that show no full-text availability through one database may be accessible through another.

Items found through one of our databases may be requested using the WebBridge or Full-text Finder links (“request via Geisel Library Interlibrary Loan”).

If you don't find your item through a database that uses WebBridge or Full-text Finder, you'll have to get into the ILL request through the Library homepage by clicking on the button in the middle of the screen on the right that says "Interlibrary Loan". You'll be brought to a login page that looks like the one that comes up if you're going into Canvas or your campus email.

Login using your normal SAC username and password. 

 

Click logon, and you'll be brought to a page that looks like this:

On the left, click on the kind of material you'd like to request under "Make New Request" (boxed in red in the screenshot). 

 

Your page will look something like this:

Fill out as much information as you know, then click submit!

When your item has been processed and is ready to pick up (if it's a book) or download (if it's an article or a book chapter), you'll get an email from the Interlibrary Loan Staff with directions on how to get access to your source. Follow those directions and voila! ILL complete!

 

NOTE: These materials will not get to you immediately. Usually it will take 1 to 3 days for articles, and about a week for books, but it may take longer depending on how long it takes the other libraries to respond. Be patient! And try not to request these right before your paper is due! Leave yourself about a week when possible (even for articles), although sometimes they’ll arrive much faster.
