Belief and the Human Imagination
Dr. Jay Parini
The Axinn Professor of English and Creative Writing at Middlebury College, Dr. Jay Parini is one of the most prolific and insightful writers of our time. As a poet, novelist, biographer, screenwriter, and critic, Jay has authored over 20 books, including most recently New and Collected Poems: 1975-2015, a novel about the life of St. Paul, The Damascus Road (2019), and this summer’s release of Borge and Me: An Encounter, which recalls the week he spent in Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges in the spring of 1971.
Jay was our debut speaker when we launched the Grappone Humanities Institute in 2018, and we are honored to welcome him back to reflect upon two things that have shaped his extraordinary career and life: faith and the literary imagination.
