What is Scholarly?

  • Scholarly or peer-reviewed journals have articles written by experts in academic or professional fields.
  • Their intended audience is other scholars and professionals.
  • Their content is usually highly specialized.
  • Scholarly articles are excellent for finding out what has been researched on a topic
  • They are also good for finding bibliographies that point to other relevant sources of information.
  • Examples are: Journal of Chemical Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society
  • The word "journal" is not necessarily in the title of a scholarly publication - but it often is!
  • For more info please see YouTube video on the subpage attached to this page.
