Linking to Articles from Canvas: General Instructions

This guide explains how to find or create persistent links to articles in many of Geisel Library's full-text databases.

Due to copyright law and database license restrictions, faculty should not upload full-text articles into Canvas that were downloaded from Geisel Library's research databases.

Instead, faculty should link to those database articles directly from their Canvas course pages.

NOTE: If you copy a database link from your Internet browser into Canvas, that link will may stop working by the next day. To remedy this shortcoming, most database vendors offer persistent links for each of their articles and citations. Persistent links are stable URLs that consistently link connect users to particular full-text articles or a citations within their research databases.

Most databases automatically provide persistent links that incorporate the library's proxy server information; if they do not, you will need to add the following proxy information in front of the URL as follows:

https://geisel.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

Please contact the Reference Desk if you need any assistance with this process.
