Welcome

CAS SciFinder-n logoThis guide will introduce you to using SciFinder for performing literature searches in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry.  For structure searching using SciFinder, please contact a member of the Chemistry Department, or see SciFindern's short training video.

If you need in-depth assistance or have questions about any of the resources mentioned in the guide, please contact the librarians at the Reference Desk.

What is SciFinder?

CAS SciFinder-n logoSciFinder is the main research tool for chemistry; it's up-to-date and extensive.  It is:

  • reference database for chemistry and related science literature, including journal articles, dissertations, and patents.  (It links out to full text, but does not include the full text itself.)

  • substance database, with information including chemical structures, chemical names, properties, and more

  • reaction database, with chemical reaction information including reaction schemes, experimental procedures, conditions, yields, and more.

The New SciFinder Platform: SciFinder-n

SciFindern is the new SciFinder platorm -- along with a new interface, the search also works a bit differently. You can access it with your same SciFinder username and password.
