      Introduction

This guide will help you identify and locate primary sources, both in the library and on the Internet. It is intended as a starting point and not as a comprehensive list of tools.

Here are several ways in which primary sources are important in academic research:

      1. They can give you first-hand insight into historical events and periods
      2. In literary studies, they can give context to an author's work
      3. In the sciences, they provide access to original research, including data and experimental results
