Advice From Your Librarian and Professor

Be thoughtful. Consult resources such as news blogs and encyclopedias before finalizing your selection.

Be creative. Consider a topic that will be unique and truly yours on presentation day!

Be specific. For example: stem cell research is very general. Rather, something like:  Should/can stem cells be used to cure HIV?

Welcome

Welcome to the Geisel Library Guide for BI 104 - General Biology II (For Majors) and taught by Professor Barry Wicklow.  This guide will help you to prepare an interesting and informative presentation on a controversial issue within the areas of biological sciences being studied this term.  To this end, we will:

  • Point you to appropriate resources

  • Help you form distinctions about different types of resources

  • Demonstrate how to effectively search for scholarly information

  • Improve your understanding of primary and secondary sources

  • Introduce you to the APA style of proper citation (a more scientific style than MLA)

  • Offer you an opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of a controversial biological issue

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email: (hlindquist@anselm.edu).

You can also stop by the Reference Desk at the Geisel Library and ask for me.  I also supply contact info for the Reference Desk in the "Get General Help" box to the right.
