Be thoughtful. Consult resources such as news blogs and encyclopedias before finalizing your selection.
Be creative. Consider a topic that will be unique and truly yours on presentation day!
Be specific. For example: stem cell research is very general. Rather, something like: Should/can stem cells be used to cure HIV?
Welcome to the Geisel Library Guide for BI 104 - General Biology II (For Majors) and taught by Professor Barry Wicklow. This guide will help you to prepare an interesting and informative presentation on a controversial issue within the areas of biological sciences being studied this term. To this end, we will:
Point you to appropriate resources
Help you form distinctions about different types of resources
Demonstrate how to effectively search for scholarly information
Improve your understanding of primary and secondary sources
Introduce you to the APA style of proper citation (a more scientific style than MLA)
Offer you an opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of a controversial biological issue
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email: (hlindquist@anselm.edu).
You can also stop by the Reference Desk at the Geisel Library and ask for me. I also supply contact info for the Reference Desk in the "Get General Help" box to the right.
